This course is for those who are new to music and those with prior musical experience looking to improve their musicianship skills. No prior musical experience is necessary and this course will be tailored to the individual needs and goals of the participants. It will lay and build upon the foundation of musical skills through singing, reading, and writing a variety of notes and rhythms. Focusing on singing, and building aural skills, participants will learn and practice utilizing solfège in the pentatonic (do, re, mi, so la), and major scale (do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do), as well as singing a variety of intervals. Participants will build music literacy skills, through the following rhythms: quarter notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes, half notes, whole notes, and dotted notes in straight and syncopated combinations will be covered. This course will include a variety of folk songs, classical songs, popular songs, hymns, to explore, learn, sight-read, and practice notes and rhythms. In addition, participants will learn basic conducting patterns in simple meters, as well as learn music terminology.

Adult Musicianship Level 2 Tuesdays 6:00-7:00 pm (1 hour class)

This course is for individuals with prior musical experience and participates from past musicianship courses, who are looking to improve their singing and music reading skills. The course will be tailored to the individual needs and goals of the participants. It will continue to build musical skills through singing, reading, and writing a variety of notes and rhythms. Participants will utilize solfège in the extended pentatonic, major scale (do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do), and minor scale, as well as singing a variety of intervals. Participants will build music literacy skills, through the following rhythms: quarter notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes, half notes, whole notes, and dotted notes in straight and syncopated combinations in simple and compound meters. This course will include a variety of folk songs, church hymns, classical songs, popular songs, chorus sections and rounds to explore, learn, sight-read, and practice notes and rhythms. In addition, participants will learn conducting patterns in simple meters and compound meters as well as learn music terminology.
