CMusic is dedicated to offering numerous opportunities for classical music lovers and amateur musicians in the CNYArea. Our programs are open to all musicians and our concerts are free and available to the public.
Up to 2010, funding for our activities was accomplished by using the fiscal sponsorship of existing non-profits in order to obtain grants of public money. In 2007 through 2009, a New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Grant was obtained for these activities. In 2007 and 2008 funding was obtained from the New York State Music Fund through the State University of New York Research Foundation. These grants were supplemented by cash donations from individuals.
Since 2010 our programs have been founded in different ways:
Grant Application:
CNYArts: Has been one of our major sources for founding the artists’ fees. Their awarded grants have been from 3700 to 750 dollars , since 20110 to 2018) depending on the number of programs we planned to present.
Cooperative application of grants with other local organizations has been another major source of funds.
Personal Solicitations – will be used, both of individuals and businesses. At music events, a donation basket is made available.
Foundation Grant Solicitations – will be used, beginning with our local community foundation.
Website Donations – will be used.
Government Grant Solicitations – will be used. Initially, the primary source will be the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Grant program. Later, direct NYSCA and/or NEA grants will be sought.
Sale of Promotional Items – will be used. That is, the sale of hats, cups, pens, umbrellas, etc.
Sale of Recordings – of local music events may be used with the permission of the performers and careful attention to copyright.
Ticket Sales – will sometimes be used, but primarily for high cost events, where many professionals are involved.
4d) Fund Raising will take place in the state of New York, primarily in the area near Cortland, NY. specifically, in the Counties of Cortland, Tompkins, Onondaga and Broome. Grant applications go to Syracuse and Albany in New York. This fund raising will be for our own organization.
10) We have made some recordings of music in the public domain. Copies of the recordings have been sold as fund raisers. Since our focus is on music, it seems likely that we will become involved in the production, sale and distribution of recordings. At this stage it is difficult to say exactly what the exact nature of that involvement will be. However, our involvement will always be consistent with our purpose, which is to promote music and musicians in the interest of music, the musicians and the public.
12) We would accept donations in many forms, with the understanding that the donation is given in support of our existing program.
13) Donation of Funds. There are no plans to do this at this time, but we may be interested in distributing money to other organizations for specific projects, provided that the projects are consistent with our purpose. Acting as a fiscal sponsor for an individual or group is another possibility, but only once we have established ourselves and our own program. All such arrangements would have to include reporting requirements to ensure that resources have been used properly.
